Brief Note About Kiribati Ypeer
Kiribati Ypeer was established in 2015 and Co-founded and funded by UNFPA and collaboration with two key ministries, Ministry of health MOH and the Ministry of women’s, youth, sport and social affair/MWYSSA. Kiribati Youth Peer Network is designed by young people for young people. This network has a special focus on youth’s sexual reproductive health and rights. Kiribati Y-Peer Network is a network of more than 15 organisations and Institutions supporting thousands of young people in the broad areas of adolescent sexual and reproductive health and life skills. This network was established after the endorsement on the 11th of September 2015, and there were 35 youths from different organisations and schools and Institutions who attended the training, now became peer educators and they were the first in the history.
Since that period Ypeer launched by the secretary of the MWYSSA and well known as active Youth network has worked closely with key different agencies in Kiribati: (Ministry of Health & Ministry of Women, Youth, Sport and social affairs, NGOs, Communities, Churches and Youth club).
2015
Members registered among the age of 15-30 years below and they come from different areas, respectives community, NGOs, Churches and Youth clubs. Those members were trained in SRHR packaged and other related topics and certified, about 50 young people at that time. Continue training and refresher courses for the above first members and outreach within communities, peer to peer program, condom distributions and visiting youth club’s or group discussion.
2016
Kiribati Ypeer extends more activities delivered to the 7 outer islands including Xmas Island and Phoenix Islands and reached 356 young people received SRHR training, domestic violence, Gender role, life skills and other topics related.
Total members we got and worked with increased up to 569 young people from 2016 to 2018, until today the Kiribati Ypeer network keeps it to do more activities, involving national events and supporting the ministry in many ways with the training, awareness and etc. Kiribati Ypeer coordinated under MWYSSA through the youth division section and policies to support young people’s lives, choice and health as well as funding received every year and cater for all activities we have, programs and training especially opportunity funds, small grants, projects and etc.
Every 3 years we have an annual meeting and the selection for new executives chairs, evaluation meeting and finalized the Ypeer workplan as national level.
