What is Y-PEER?
Y-PEER stands for : YOUTH PEER EDUCATION NETWORK which is a groundbreaking initiative pioneered by UNFPA at global level since 2000.
Our motto: Youth participation
CONNECTING THOUSANDS OF YOUNG PEOPLE ACROSS REGIONS, Y-PEER AIMS TO PROMOTE HEALTHY LIFE STYLES AND TO EMPOWER YOUNG PEOPLE AT DIFFERENT LEVELS (PEER EDUCATION, ADVOCACY, PROGRAM MANAGEMENT, FUNDRAISING…) THROUGH PEER TO PEER APPROACH.
Brief history
1990: HIV out break and spreaded (global).
1999: UNFPA started a project (Eastern Europe)
2001: Project expanded to network ( Y-Peer)
2009: Y-Peer Expanded Asia Region
2010-2012: ATOT workshop started ( 1st -3rd ATOT from Bhutan).
2012: Partnership With Youth Lead
2015: joint meeting and proposed for Robert Carr( NGO)
fund.
2016: YL+YP got funding support and started Y-peer Asia
Pacific Center
2017: ATOT Resumed.
Y-PEER Bhutan Background info
Y-PEER stands for YOUTH PEER EDUCATION NETWORK which is a groundbreaking initiative pioneered by UNFPA at the global level since 2000.
Connecting thousands of young people across regions, Y-PEER aims to promote healthy lifestyles and to empower young people at different levels (peer education, advocacy, program management, fundraising…) through peer to peer approach.
The first Y-PEER network was established at Sherubtse College in the year 2012. Currently, Y-PEER has its network in 19 RUB Colleges and Technical Training Institutes consisting of more than 1500 registered members. We have in total,
15 youths who have attended ATOT till date. Untill 2021, Seven National Meets have been conducted, along with completion of 18 National Training of trainers. Around 600 youths have undergone National Training of trainers till date.
