Y-PEER BHUTAN attended the International Conference on Family Planning (ICFP 2022) at Pattaya, Thailand!
The Conference was about Ensuring Family Planning for all. Thousands of people including policymakers, implementing agencies, and young people from all over the world had come together for the conference. Three representatives from BHUTAN took part in it.
PRE-CONFERENCE
The International Conference on Family Planning commenced on the 12th of November, 2022. The day began with registration, followed by an Opening Plenary for the 2 days-pre conferences. There were various sessions all related to SRHR and CSE, whereby the participants had the liberty to choose according to their individual interests and select the session they want to attend. Y-PEER Bhutan attended sessions such as Safe abortion for everyone, Media training, LGBTIQA+ Youth in Global Family Planning Movements, Leaders of the Present and the Future: What Youth Want etc. The mid-session breaks were designated for networking purposes.
MAIN CONFERENCE
The main conference consisted of a grand opening, a RED CARPET ceremony on the 14th evening whereby two Y-PEER members also participated in the youth dialogue on the theme: 8 billion; A world of Infinite Possibilities, followed by various inspirational speakers to the mass on the 15th. There were diverse sessions for the entire day, whereby participants had the liberty to choose the ones they want to attend.
Poster presentations were also done by various activists, young people, and organizations working in the field of SRHR. in order to increase vigilance, many organizations and startups had stalls in the exhibition areas to showcase their work and products as well.
Inauguration of the MURAL – [Make a Choice]
UNFPA along with Y-PEER Asia Pacific Center had come together to symbolize the 8 billion people through a beautiful mural. A popular Thai artist Supis created the master piece with the joined ideas from Y-PEER Members from the asian pacific region. The Mural expressed the visibility of goodness as well as the badness which comes along with an increase in population, and how it is in everyone’s hands, to make a choice, for the good or the bad.
Closing Ceremony
The International Conference on Family Planning ended on the 17th of November, 2022. The ending day was all about celebrating the success of the conference, awarding ceremonies to the SRHR Champions, and discussions of way forward. The conference was very informative and insightful. We are grateful to UNFPA and Y-PEER Asia Pacific Center and Department of Youth and Sports, Bhutan for providing us with this opportunity.
