The first day of the 17th National Training of Trainers started with the arrival of 35 active and enthusiastic Y-PEER participants representing their respective networks.

Some key activities that highlighted the day was the body mapping activity, 30 minutes of fame, sex and gender discussion, dumb charades on SRHR and demonstration of period products.

As is our tradition, Y-PEER Bhutan aims to train these 35 amazing participants into certified and capable advocates for SRHR through an approach filled with EDUTAINMENT.

Day 2 was filled with activity-filled sessions and the energy and participation from the participants were received in twofold.

Activities that the participants most enjoyed and learned from were the power walk, choosing a friend, experience sharing, dramatization, discussions, agree/disagree, guess the flag, and the pose activity among others.

The participants committed to put effort in being more accepting of diversity to reduce stigma and discrimination, to keep the spirit of volunteerism and peer helping alive and to be more inclusive in their actions and the words they use.

Y-PEER Bhutan would wholeheartedly like to thank Sangay Loday for being our guest facilitator for the very interactive, eye opening and very empowering SOGIESC session. We look forward to working with you again in the future.

The key highlights for Day 3 were the dramatization that the participants did for GBV, discussions for YKP, and the quiz sessions for State of the World Population Report among question answer and experience sharing sessions.

Y-PEER Bhutan would like to convey our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Jigme Choden and Mr. Wangyel from UNFPA in Bhutan for taking their time to attend our training and share about the very insightful State of the World Population Report. It was truly an informative session from which the participants learned a lot.

As always, the participants entered the room with a zeal to learn something new. By the end of the day, the participants not only leave the room learning from the training but also by sharing/teaching a lot to the facilitators and their colleagues.

Day 4 was entirely activity-based. The participants got to learn on the attributes needed in a person to work in a team effectively by playing a wide range of games. The participants were demonstrated the correct skills that are required while co-facilitating by the facilitators. The effect of motivation was demonstrated through a small activity and for the family planning session, the participants learnt about the importance of safe sex, about the various contraceptives that are available and played a common relay to learn the correct method of using condoms.

We would like to thank our former National Coordinator Mr. Rangjung Dorji for not only visiting us but also getting the participants treats and for sponsoring Y-PEER Bhutan with the female condoms. Your support and guidance for the network really keeps us inspired and going. Thank you for being an exemplary leader for all members of Y-PEER Bhutan.

We would also like to thank Mr Kinley Phub from the Changjiji Youth Center for introducing the participants to the young girls circle and for opening a door of opportunity for the participants to continue their journey in civic engagement.

For being the guest speaker for the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse, we would like to thank Mr Palden Wangchuk Dorji Pal Den for sharing your insights on this very concerning issue.

Day 4 had the participants bond even better through the activities and it could clearly be seen that parting ways would be a lot more difficult for both the facilitators and the participants.

The last day of the 17th National Training of Trainers concluded with three last sessions on Media Literacy, Legal Acts and Laws and discussion from the Y-PEER Impact Assessment that happened very recently.

After the end of the formal sessions, the participants shared their training reflections in the room and made their commitment to be active volunteers throughout.

We would like to thank the chief of Youth Center Division for sharing with us the findings from the Impact Assessment of Y-PEER Bhutan. We look forward to the same support from Department of Youth and Sports for all endeavors of Y-PEER Bhutan.

For the closing event of the 17th National Training Of Trainers, we were graced by the officiating Director General of Department of Public Health, Mr. Rixin Jamtsho who shared with us his words of wisdom and encouragement to the participants. Y-PEER Bhutan looks forward to collaborating with the DoPH in advocacy campaigns and all initiatives directed towards creating awareness on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.

All the participants were finally awarded the title of “certified peer educators for SRHR” and will now work as trainers in their respective Y-PEER Networks and communities. The organizing team of Y-PEER Bhutan would like to wish all the participants a huge congratulations for their successful completion of the training.

The final day ended with heavy but grateful hearts revealing their long awaited secret buddies. The participants and the facilitators parted ways with the promise to keep in touch, to be active Y-PEER trainers in their networks and to reunite during the Y-PEER meet.
