Our Work

How we work?

Our approach is grounded in peer education, young people learning from and supporting one another in safe, inclusive environments. We combine innovative, experiential learning methods such as theatre-based techniques, role play, and interactive workshops to make learning engaging and impactful.

We work across multiple levels:

  • Community level – raising awareness and creating safe spaces for young people
  • National level – strengthening youth networks and partnerships
  • Regional level – amplifying youth voices and influencing policy

Core Program Areas

SRHR Education

What we do:
We provide accurate, youth-friendly information on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) through peer education, workshops, and community engagement.

Why it matters:
Many young people lack access to reliable and youth friendly information due to stigma and cultural taboos. This leads to misinformation, unsafe practices, and limited decision-making power.

Our impact:
By equipping young people with knowledge and life skills, we enable them to make informed, responsible decisions about their bodies, relationships, and futures.

Gender Equality

What we do:
We promote gender equality by addressing harmful norms, challenging stereotypes, and fostering respectful and equitable relationships through youth-led initiatives.

Why it matters:
Gender inequality continues to limit opportunities, reinforce discrimination, and increase vulnerability to violence and poor health outcomes.

Our impact:
We support young people to become advocates for equality, creating communities that are more inclusive, respectful, and just by empowering young women and involving young men in the movement for gender equality.

Youth Empowerment

What we do:
We build the capacity of young people through training, mentorship, and leadership opportunities, enabling them to actively participate in decision-making processes.

Why it matters:
Young people are often excluded from spaces where decisions about their lives are made, limiting their ability to influence change.

Our impact:
We nurture confident, skilled youth leaders who can advocate for their rights and contribute meaningfully to their communities and societies.

Mental Health

What we do:
We raise awareness on mental health and well-being by creating safe spaces for dialogue and promoting peer support systems.

Why it matters:
Mental health remains highly stigmatized, and many young people lack access to support or feel unable to seek help despite mental health issues being a rising problem in the world.

Our impact:
We encourage open conversations, reduce stigma, and support young people in accessing the help and resources they need.

Inclusive Spaces

What we do:
We create safe, inclusive environments where all young people, regardless of gender, identity, ability, or background, can participate and be heard.

Why it matters:
Marginalized groups, such as PWDs, often face barriers to participation, limiting their access to information, services, and opportunities.

Our impact:
We ensure that no one is left behind by fostering spaces that are respectful, diverse, accessible, inclusive and empowering.

ICPD

What we do:
We align our work with global commitments such as the International Conference on Population and Development, advocating for youth rights, gender equality, and universal access to SRHR.

Why it matters:
Global frameworks shape national policies and resource allocation, but youth voices are often underrepresented in these spaces.

Our impact:
We amplify youth perspectives in regional and global platforms, ensuring that policies reflect the realities and needs of young people.

Our Key Approaches

Capacity Building and Leadership Development

we invest in strengthening the knowledge, skills, and leadership capacities of young people through structured trainings, peer educator programs, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities. Our initiatives focus on key areas such as sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), gender equality, mental health, advocacy, and facilitation skills, equipping young people to take on active roles within their communities. We also support youth to become trainers themselves, enabling them to cascade knowledge and build a growing network of informed and empowered peer educators. This approach ensures that impact is not limited to individuals but continues to expand organically, creating a sustainable foundation for long-term change.

Peer to Peer Education and Community Outreach

Peer education lies at the heart of our work, as we create youth-led learning spaces where young people engage with one another through open dialogue, shared experiences, and mutual support. Through workshops, campaigns, and outreach initiatives, we deliver accurate, youth-friendly information in ways that are relatable and accessible. Our work extends to grassroots communities, including marginalized and hard-to-reach groups, ensuring inclusivity and broader impact. By fostering trust and openness among peers, we help break down stigma and cultural taboos, enabling more honest conversations and deeper understanding of critical issues.

Advocacy and Policy Engagement

We actively amplify youth voices in policy spaces at national, regional, and global levels by engaging in advocacy campaigns, consultations, and strategic partnerships. Our work focuses on influencing policies related to SRHR, gender equality, youth participation, and health systems, ensuring that young people’s perspectives are represented in decision-making processes. We also support youth to engage directly with policymakers, represent their communities, and contribute to global commitments. By bridging the gap between young people and institutions, we help shape more inclusive, responsive, and effective policies that reflect real needs and lived experiences.

Networking, Partnerships & Movement Building

Y-PEER Asia Pacific works to build and strengthen a diverse network of youth-led and youth-serving organizations, national networks, and regional partners. Through collaboration, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives, we foster a strong ecosystem that enhances collective impact across the region. We also support the establishment and growth of national networks, promoting local ownership and sustainability. By connecting individuals and organizations, we enable the sharing of resources, experiences, and strategies, which is essential for addressing complex challenges and scaling impact effectively.

Youth Participation & Leadership in Decision-Making

We place young people at the center of our work by ensuring their meaningful participation in every stage of program design, implementation, and evaluation. Beyond participation, we create opportunities for young people to take on leadership roles, represent their peers, and actively engage in decision-making processes at various levels. This approach recognizes young people not just as beneficiaries but as leaders and changemakers. When youth are empowered to lead, solutions become more innovative, relevant, and grounded in real-life experiences, resulting in more effective and sustainable outcomes.

Innovation & Experiential Learning

Our work embraces innovative and experiential learning approaches that go beyond traditional methods of education. By using creative techniques such as theatre-based methods, role play, simulations, storytelling, and digital engagement, we create interactive and transformative learning experiences. These approaches encourage active participation, critical thinking, and emotional connection, making learning more impactful and memorable. By continuously adapting and innovating, we ensure that our methods remain relevant to the evolving needs and realities of young people.

Inclusive & Rights-Based Approach

Inclusivity and human rights are fundamental to everything we do. We ensure that our programs are accessible to all young people, particularly those from marginalized and underrepresented communities, including key populations. By creating safe, respectful, and inclusive spaces, we enable young people to access information, express themselves, and participate fully. Our rights-based approach emphasizes dignity, equality, and non-discrimination, ensuring that no one is left behind and that all young people have the opportunity to thrive.

Knowledge Sharing, Learning & Regional Collaboration

We actively promote the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and best practices across countries and networks within the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. Through regional trainings, forums, and collaborative platforms, we create opportunities for continuous learning and growth. By connecting diverse contexts and perspectives, we strengthen the effectiveness of our programs and enable the adaptation of successful approaches across different settings. This collaborative learning environment enhances innovation and strengthens the overall impact of our work.

Resource Mobilization & Support to National Networks

We support national networks by providing small grants, technical assistance, and capacity strengthening, enabling them to design and implement context-specific initiatives that respond to local needs. In addition, we work to mobilize resources and build partnerships that sustain and scale youth-led efforts across the region. By strengthening national networks, we ensure that our work is locally driven, culturally relevant, and sustainable, contributing to long-term impact at both community and regional levels.
